Susan Sciama was born in Cambridge and lived from the age of seven in Oxford. She studied English Literature and Philosophy (M.A) at Edinburgh University, then Fine Art in London. She is half-Italian and the watery atmosphere of Venice can be discerned in her paintings.
Susan's work is a mix of vivid abstract oils and watercolours, linking to photographs of children being imaginative in the city. The concentrated energy in the urban play-life of children connects in subtle ways with these often nature-inspired paintings.
Memories, dreams, internal landscapes interact here.
